Rimeso is a free Android friendship app that puts you in a small private circle, where everyone answers one thoughtful question a day and you get to know each other from there. It's for people aged 16 and over who want closer conversation than social media gives them. It isn't a dating app, there's no iPhone version yet, and it doesn't arrange in-person meetups.

The short answer

  • What it is: a small circle, one question a day, then comments and private chat. About four minutes a day.
  • Cost: free. The daily question, circle, chat and Vent Room cost nothing.
  • Where: Android, on Google Play, in more than 60 countries. No iPhone version yet.
  • Language: daily questions in English and Hindi only.
  • Spelling: R-I-M-E-S-O. It's a friendship app, and it's unrelated to apps with similar names.

We make Rimeso, so this is the makers' own description. We've tried to be just as plain about what it doesn't do.

What is the Rimeso app?

Rimeso is a friendship app, founded in India and open well beyond it. Instead of a public feed, you get a small group of members and a reason to talk every day. The table has the facts in one place.

How Rimeso works

  1. You set up. Pick your interests, your circle language (English or Hindi), your age group and your country.
  2. You join a circle. Rimeso matches you into a small circle. It first looks for an active circle in your own country. If there isn't one yet, it can place you in an active circle in a nearby country whose clock is within a couple of hours of yours, so the question still arrives at a sensible local time. Someone in Ireland might join a UK circle, say, or someone in Austria a German one. Otherwise you join or start a circle in your country.
  3. You answer the Daily Spark. Each day everyone gets one thoughtful question, written and reviewed by the Rimeso team.
  4. You share first and read second. Until you post your own answer, you can see who answered but not what they said.
  5. You talk about it. React, comment, reply in threads and mention people.
  6. You chat one-to-one if you want to. You can message any member of your circle with text, photos, link previews and replies, with typing indicators and read ticks. Chat messages disappear after 7 days.

Two more parts round it out. The Vent Room is a space for hard days, where your identity is hidden from other members. There are also gentle streaks and badges for showing up.

For a step-by-step walkthrough, read how to use Rimeso.

💡 Try this: if you've installed Rimeso and don't know what to write on day one, answer in three sentences and end with a question for the circle. It gives everyone an easy way in.

Why one question a day?

Friendship grows from repeated contact more than from one great conversation. Researcher Jeffrey Hall estimated about 50 hours together to become casual friends (Hall, 2018). A small daily habit won't reach that quickly, and we won't claim it does. It does keep the same few people in front of you, with something better to discuss than the weather. If you want the longer argument, we set it out in why Rimeso exists.

Is Rimeso free?

Yes. The daily question, your circle, chat and the Vent Room are free. An optional subscription may add extras later, but the core stays free. There are no ads.

Is Rimeso safe?

That depends on what you mean by safe, so here's what the app does and what it can't do.

  • Your answers stay in your circle. Only its members can see them. They're never public and never indexed by search engines.
  • You control who reaches you. You can block or report someone, and turn off messages from others.
  • Chat doesn't pile up. Messages disappear after 7 days, though anyone can take a screenshot before then.
  • The Vent Room hides your identity from other members.
  • There's less exposure by design. With no public feed and no follower count, there's nothing for strangers to scroll through.

Here's what it can't do. No app can promise who someone really is, and we don't. Treat people on Rimeso as you would anyone you've met online: keep your address, workplace and money out of the chat, and report anyone who makes you uneasy.

Rimeso also isn't therapy, medical care or a crisis service. If you're struggling, please talk to someone who is trained to help. You'll find a helpline for your country at the bottom of this page.

Rimeso review: what's good and what isn't

We can't review our own app, and we won't quote anyone doing it for us. What we can do is tell you where we think it works and where it falls short.

Where it works. You get a reason to talk every day, so you don't have to come up with an opener. The share-first rule means nobody hangs back reading everyone else, and your answer isn't shaped by whoever posted first. A small circle means your answer gets read. And four minutes fits into a day that already feels full.

Where it falls short. Rimeso is a young, independent app, and some circles are quieter than others, especially in smaller countries. A quiet circle is a real disappointment, and it's the likeliest reason you'd leave. It's also limited to Android, and to English or Hindi conversation. And it's for talking: you might get to know someone well and never meet them. If you want friends in your town, you'll need to pair it with something local, because circles aren't based on your city.

Rimeso app download

Rimeso is on Google Play, for Android phones. To be sure you get the right app, use this link to Rimeso on Google Play. There's no iPhone version yet and we can't give a date, so anything offering Rimeso for iPhone today isn't from us.

Who Rimeso is for

Rimeso is built for people who'd like a few good conversations more than a big audience. It should suit you if:

  • You've moved to a new city or country and want someone to talk to while you build a life there.
  • You find small talk hard and would rather start with a proper question.
  • You're tired of feeds and follower counts.
  • You have minutes, not evenings. About four minutes a day fits around shifts, study or small children.
  • You're happy to talk in English or Hindi, wherever you live.

Who Rimeso is not for

  • iPhone users. There's no iPhone version yet. Our list of the best apps to make friends shows what works on your phone, with Meetup and Slowly as good places to start.
  • People who want in-person meetups. We don't arrange them and we can't promise friends in your town. Meetup, parkrun and the options in our Timeleft alternatives guide will serve you better.
  • People who want a large public audience. There's no public feed and no follower count, so nothing you write will ever go viral. If you want reach, a public social network is the right tool.
  • People who want daily questions in another language. Questions and circles exist only in English and Hindi. The app's interface comes in seven languages, but that's separate from the circle language. Someone can use the app in German and talk with their circle in English, and that's as far as it goes today.
  • People looking for a date. See our guide to friendship apps that aren't dating apps if you want the difference spelled out.
  • Anyone under 16.
  • Anyone who needs urgent support. The Vent Room is for hard days, and it's no substitute for a helpline or a professional. Our guide to anonymous vent apps explains the limits of all these spaces.

How to spell Rimeso, and why search results can be confusing

It's spelled R-I-M-E-S-O. Search engines sometimes correct the name to a similar-sounding app that is unrelated to us. If that happens, search for "Rimeso friendship app" or go straight to rimeso.in.

Two other things can muddy the picture, and we'd rather explain them than leave you guessing.

  • Older pages on rimeso.in belonged to a different service. If an old link or an automated summary describes this website as something else, that's why. Those pages have nothing to do with the friendship app.
  • Other unrelated apps have been published under the Rimeso developer name on Google Play. They aren't this product, and they do something else entirely.

Rimeso today means this friendship app.
